Main work experiences
I am a researcher in economics at the Italian Association for the Study of Economic Asymmetries (a/simmetrie, http://asimmetrie.org/), where I focus on investigating the sources and consequences of macroeconomic asymmetries, and help to ascertain their policy implications. Some results of my research can be found in the a/simmetrie working paper series (http://www.asimmetrie.org/category/working-papers/), in a/simmetrie policy briefs (http://www.asimmetrie.org/category/policy-briefs/) or as journal articles1. This work is co-financed by a grant from the Nando Peretti Foundation (http://www.nandoperettifound.org/en/)2. My research supervisor is Prof. Alberto Bagnai.
Just before joining a/simmetrie in February 2014, I spent two years as postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Economics of Roma Tre University (http://dipeco.uniroma3.it/). The research project I participated in was aimed at estimating the relationship between socio-economic conditions and the probability (and extent) of tax evasion3. My task was centered in developing models for estimating the probability of tax evasion. Some of this work was conducted at the Research Centre in Economics and Public Finance (CEFIP). The research supervisors were Prof. Antonio Di Majo and Corrado Pollastri.
I worked for almost two years (2010/07-2012/03) at Centro Europa Ricerche (CER, http://cer-online.it/), one of the most important privately-run economic research centres in Italy. I was responsible of CER’s macroeconometric model that is used to make forecasts on the Italian economy and to evaluate government policies. I contributed to write various reports and analysis on macroeconomic issues. The principal researcher (and director of CER) was Stefano Fantacone.
Since the academic year 2011-2012 I am tutor of economics at the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO (http://www.uninettunouniversity.net/).
I collaborated for a year with Bureau for Research in Innovation, Complexity and Knowledge (BRICK, http://www.brick.carloalberto.org/) by participating in the PICK-ME (Policy Incentives for the Creation of Knowledge: Methods and Evidence) European project (http://pick-me.carloalberto.org/)4. I applied the Hidalgo and Hausmann (2009) methodology5 to measure the complexity of European regions (NUTS2) by using patent data.
I spent some time collaborating with Prof. Sergio Ginebri and his research group on ageing and the retirement system. I worked on his overlapping-generations pension model and associated macroeconometric module.
I have had a long (though not very frequent) experience as economic analyst at TrendSight (http://www.trendsight.net/) which is a research firm specialized in the analysis of economic and social phenomena. It was a nice experience since there were some innovative ideas, like real time analysis of Twitter data and using Google Trends to forecast tourism demand (both started in 2010, so they should be considered as “pioneristic” work).
Besides the previously mentioned experience at the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO (http://www.uninettunouniversity.net/), I had a course on “Elements of Statistical Analysis with R” in 2012 at La Sapienza University6.
